The Great Paavo was the leader of the social democratic party (1993-2005) and the prime minister of Finland (1995-2003) in the time when Finland got out of terrible recession of the 1990s, joined the EU and Euro. He ran for president in 2012, challenged the general xenophobic atmosphere in Finland in the time of another worldwide recession, and helped both the EU and Finland recover economically and socially - again. During the presidential campaign, Aamulehti (Tampere-based conservative tabloid) tried to dirt him, but Paavo held his ground and the politically motivated dirt-campaign failed.
